Christ Lutheran Church, Denver Colorado

Our New Pastor

PASTOR ROGER WOHLETZ

Pastor Roger C. Wohletz was born March 24, 1972 in Kansas City, MO.  His father worked for TWA Airlines at Kansas City International Airport.  His mother was a secretary and a public school teacher.  Roger is from a family of three boys.  His parents are now retired and live in Tucson.

Roger attended Truman State University, Kirksville, MO, graduating in 1994 with a BA degree in history. While in Kirksville he lived at the Lutheran Student House and was active in the campus ministry.  This involvement led to his decision to become a pastor. His seminary training was in residence at Concordia, St. Louis, where he received his Masters of Divinity degree in 1998 and was ordained in June of that year.  He served his vicarage year at Immanuel, Pensacola, FL in 1996-1997.

At St. Louis Seminary, Roger met Jenniffer Ruckle of Peoria, IL, while attending a Lutheran singles gathering in southern Illinois.  They were married August 2, 1997 and have two boys: Nathan Paul (8) and Noah Thomas (4).  Jenniffer has worked as a phlebotomist and has training as a Health & Fitness Instructor.  In recent years, Jenniffer has been a homemaker and a volunteer teacher’s assistant and art instructor at St. Peter’s Lutheran School.

Upon graduation from the seminary, Pastor Wohletz received his first Divine Call to Faith in Christ in Albuquerque, NM (Rocky Mountain District) where he served from August 1998 until he accepted his second Call to Shobonier, IL in December, 2002.  While in Albuquerque, Roger served as LWML Northern NM Zone Pastoral Advisor, LWML Rocky Mountain District Pastoral Advisor and served on the RMD Campus Ministry Committee.

Prior to accepting our Call to Christ, Denver, Pastor Wohletz served Immanuel, Shobonier, IL, a rural congregation with approximately 321 baptized members, 262 communicants and an average worship attendance of 110.  Recent church and community involvement includes: Circuit Counselor for the Central IL District, Board of Directors – Lighthouse Pregnancy Center, Vandalia, IL and Adjunct Instructor of History – Kaskaskia College, Centralia, IL.

Pastor Roger’s outside interests include reading history, visiting historical sites and hiking.  His love for the Word, family and Christian education come out in the following self-evaluation responses:  “I try to spend some time alone with the Word each morning in the office.  Our family also has Bible story and prayer time together before we put the kids to bed.”  “I love children’s sermons.  I think they are a wonderful way of involving children in worship and giving them, and the adults, a simple Gospel message.”  Responding to a question about Lutheran schools, he said, “I have great respect for our Lutheran schools and their teachers.  They provide excellent opportunities for children to learn about our Savior and the world God has created.  They also provide wonderful opportunities for outreach into the community.”
